Carn Llidi Summit overlooks Whitesands Bay in North West Pembrokeshire and stands at 181 metres above sea level. Once at the top, you will get fantastic views of Whitesands beach, Pembrokeshire and out into the Irish Sea.
It’s viewpoint made it an important defensive surveillance location during both world wars. During World War II, a Chain Home Low early-warning radar station was located on Carn Llidi.

Firstly - How to get to Whitesands:
There is a car park directly behind Whitesands beach (POSTCODE: SA62 6PS). It is a paid car park (£5) and can also get very busy during the summer. Alternatively, there is a shuttle bus (summer only) from The Oriel y Parc car park in St Davids that can take you to Whitesands.
This isn’t the only route to access Carn Llidi, however it is one of our favourites as you get a fantastic view back across Whitesands bay as you start on the Coast Path.
1. From the car park at Whitesands, as you are facing the beach, take the Coast Path on the right hand side. (Look for the distinctive acorn symbol on signposts)
2. Continue on the coast path until you reach a split in the path (About 0.55 miles - picture above). Take the right turn off the coast path and continue on this new path. As you turn right, you will now see Carn Llidi in front of you.
3. Continue on this path for around 250 yards, veer right and then continue again until the path allows you to take a left. Turn left back on yourself slightly, which will then begin the ascent towards Carn Llidi.
4. As you ascend, there is also a great viewing point on the way up to the summit, without having to make that final climb to the top!
You can either return to the car park the same way, or you can take a shorter trip and make your way back down the road that passes Upper Porthmawr Farmhouse.
