This beach doesn’t attract the numbers that nearby Freshwater West does, for obvious reasons. The Pembroke Dock refinery that rises behind the bay puts many off from exploring, but the bay offers a great deal for walkers and bird watchers. As it is facing into the estuary, there are large areas of sand and mud flats – which are particularly important for the local wildlife – but do make navigation difficult.

Compared to Freshwater West with its bright sand and aqua marine seas, East Angle is a muddier complexion, but offers a large expanse of quiet beach within a protected bay.
Fort Popton lies to the eastern edge of the bay. It’s a Napoleonic era fort that was built to protect the docks at Pembroke Dock – which were important to the national effort even then.
There is plenty parking at the bay along the various roads that line the bay. There are no facilities on the bay or near - the closest being in the village of Angle.
Dogs are allowed on this beach all year round.
