Beach Overview

Goodwick sands is a small sandy beach next to the Fishguard–Rosslare ferry terminal. The beach is created by a boulder breakwater that separates the Ferry travel area from the beach. There are series of wooden groins that are dotted across the beach.

More Information

The beach is backed by the A40 and a promenade. The bay is popular with visiting seals and dolphins – even basking sharks have been spotted in the bay.

The bay is famous as the site of the last invasion of Britain! A French army attempted to land here in 1797 but was stopped when locals fired canons at them from Fishguard Fort. The attackers were forced to land elsewhere, which meant that the conditions for landing were worse and the locals had the upper hand. As a result, the invasion was defeated.

There is ample parking behind the beach. Access to the beach is not considered to be good with those with buggies or in wheelchairs. The toilets are open 24hrs and have disabled but no baby changing facilities.
