Volcanic dark sand and grey slate pebbles form the basis of this small rural beach. The beach is more rugged and rustic than some of its neighbouring beaches. It is, however, famous for the Blue Lagoon, which is over the headland from the beach.

A former slate quarry that was once breached by the sea. Having seen this happen and sensing an opportunity, the local fisherman blasted a narrow channel to create a safe haven for their boats to moor. Today, it forms an idyllic, picture-perfect harbour which is used by many for a variety of activities, including climbing, diving and jumping from the rocks into the lagoon. The water has a distinct blue green hue that adds to the general beauty of this bit of headland.
The beach itself tends to receive strong winds and currents, which require attention when bathing in the sea, but equally create good swell for surfers. Many people utilise the easy access from the beach to surf, paddleboard and canoe.
The beach and lagoon are also popular for an activity known as Coasterring. This involves a combination of rock climbing, jumping into the sea and swimming along to the next headland to climb. Whilst a popular pastime and one of Abereiddy’s attractions, it can be dangerous. It is strongly advised that you seek advice or book to go with a local team who will know where to safely enjoy this activity.
The National Trust manages the area.
A landslide affected the car park at the rear of the beach and so a second overflow car park has been established. These charge a fee in peak season. Accessibility is generally considered to be good. There is access from the car park to the lagoon for those in wheelchairs, but not on to the beach.
There are toilets available between April and October. There are no disabled or baby changing facilities. There is usually an ice cream van in the busier months.
